Today, more than ever, education equals opportunity, and matriculating through college is seen as the key to individual prosperity and economic security. Historically black colleges and universities attract high quality students, have produced well-educated and fully prepared graduates, and have faculty teaching at high levels just as other institutions of higher learning.
We are pleased to announce that reservations are now being accepted for the 22nd Annual HBCU Tour which takes place March 29th - April 4, 2019. Last year's tour resulted in more than $300,000 in combined scholarships offered to seniors attending the tour, including scholarships to Harris-Stowe State University, Jackson State University, and Southern University.
The following schools are on this year's destination list:
Kentucky State University, James Madison University, Virginia Union University, Norfolk State University, Hampton University, Delaware State University, Bowie State University, Howard University, and Harris-Stow State University. We are excited about the opportunity to attend each of these outstanding institutions.
All 10th - 12th grade students (male and female) are welcome to participate in the tour. Students in grades 10 and 11 must have a 2.0 cumulative GPA and be enrolled in high school. Seniors must have a 2.5 cumulative GPA and score a minimum of 18 on the ACT or 1500 on the SAT. Students who do not meet the minimum criteria provided above WILL NOT be allowed to attend the tour (no exceptions). Registration forms are available on our website www.kcalphas.com.
Seniors will apply for admission at all schools while on the tour, therefore, seniors are required to complete and return all of the attached forms (including the items contained in the senior checklist) in order to attend the tour. Students in grades 10 and 11 must return the completed Parent Permission Form, Teacher/Counselor Form and Video Release Form in order to attend the tour.
Because of the significant increase in the number of students interested in participating in the college tour from both Kansas and Missouri, we will host two informational meetings regarding the tour this year. Interested students, parents, and group organizers are asked to attend one of the following informational meetings scheduled for Saturday, October 5, 2019, at 2:00 pm, at the Beta Lambda Educational Institute Building, 2915 Swope Parkway, KCMO, 64130.
We will provide important information regarding the tour (including new programs we are implementing to provide ACT preparation classes and essay writing clinics) and answer any questions or concerns you might have regarding your student's attendance on the tour at each of these meetings. Because of the success of our recent tours, we have a great deal of interest from students and parents to attend this year's tour, and space is limited. We accept students on a first come, first served basis, and the informational meetings will be an excellent opportunity to reserve your student's seat on the tour.
The cost of the tour is $500, and you can reserve your space TODAY by making a $75 (non-refundable) deposit. All final payments are due by Friday, February 15, 2019. We will accept cash, check, money order and credit/debit card. Payments should be remitted to:
